Ibanda district authorities have banned livestock movement in 5 sub counties following an outbreak of rift valley fever. The affected include Keihangara and Kicence sub counties, Igorora town council and Bufunda division in Ibanda Municipality.

The presence of an invasive and dangerous species of tick has been confirmed in Pennsylvania.
Tests by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa have confirmed the presence of the Asian or longhorn tick, discovered on a wild deer in Centre County. It is known to carry several diseases that infect hogs and cattle [and humans] in Asia. So far, ticks examined in the U.S. do not carry any infectious pathogens.

- Epidemiologic, traceback, and laboratory findings link these outbreaks to contact with live poultry, such as chicks and ducklings, which come from multiple hatcheries.
- In interviews, 100 (72%) of 138 ill people with information available reported contact with chicks or ducklings in the week before their illness started.
- People reported obtaining chicks and ducklings from several sources, including feed supply stores, websites, hatcheries, and from relatives.

A human H9N2 AIV (Avian influenza virus) case was reported in the Shenzhen city of Guangdong province on [Sun 29 Jul 2018]. The 24-year-old pregnant female patient, who lived in the Longgang district of Shenzhen city, had onset of symptoms on [Sat 21 Jul 2018] and a fever on [Thu 26 Jul 2018]; she is now in good condition. The patient had no history of live-poultry contact, and all close contacts showed no symptoms of an influenza-like illness (ILI).
