TEPHINET Facilitates Bi-national Border Health Workshop in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay

Together with CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, TEPHINET planned a bi-national border health and coordination training workshop held in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, from November 8-10, 2017 for a total of 18 participants from Paraguay and Brazil. TEPHINET facilitated the workshop through a technical consultant and provided support in curriculum review and delivery, event planning and logistics. Co-sponsored by the ministries of health of Brazil and Paraguay and Grupo de Trabajo Itaipu-Salud (GT Itaipu-Salud), the goal of the workshop was to improve coordination and communication between the two countries to strengthen border health surveillance. A document listing key findings and recommendations to improve these areas was created during the workshop to be presented to national Ministry of Health officials for approval. TEPHINET hopes to replicate this workshop in additional points along the Brazil-Paraguay border as well as other countries across the Latin America and Caribbean.
